Friendly League

The whole purpose of resurrecting the Sports Club was to allow the Friendly League, which had been running successfully for a number of seasons, to continue. The league was first created in the early 1990's with the idea of allowing teams from local pubs and organisations to participate in a cricket league, but without the pressures normally associated with playing for an organised team.

Many of the people who play in the league comment that they enjoy playing cricket but do not want to have to dedicate a whole day to it - the games are local and are played with a friendly (though competitive) spirit. This to us is the most important part of the league - to ensure that people of differing standards are able to enjoy this wonderful game. We have had many players who have said 'I haven't played cricket since school' (this can vary from 2 to 20 years!), but who have been grateful to have the opportunity to get back into the game maybe just once or twice a year.

It is this spirit and atmosphere that the committee strive to maintain - the fact that the league has grown slowly but steadily from an initial 3 teams to the current 6 is an indication of our determination to only include sides that we feel share the same goals as ourselves. Hence the addition this year of Dunstablian's CC, who are warmly welcomed and we look forward to some exciting matches taking place at their newly prepared ground.
