- Introductions
- League Rules
These were discussed at some length and agreement was reached that the following rules needed amending/updating:
- Points awarded for a win are doubled from 10 to 20 – this is due to the situation where the margin between a winning and losing team could be too low (in one instance last season 1 point!).
- Points awarded for a draw are doubled from 5 to 10 to reflect change in i)
- 5 bonus points are to be awarded for each maiden over bowled. This is to reward bowler’s efforts as the current rules were felt to be overly biased towards batsmen. This is reliant upon accurate scoring by all teams
- The rules as stated on the website are to be updated to reflect the wides/no balls situation. i.e. 2 runs per wide/no ball and no additional ball in the over, with the exception of the final over of each innings.
- The match ball is to be provided by the league for all games. There should be efforts made at each venue to secure a stock of ‘used’ balls for use when the match ball is lost. All team captains to check these are left at the venues at the end of a game as balls are one of the prime candidates for equipment going missing!
- The six and out rule is to be used for both venues being used this season as the rules need to be imposed consistently.
- Cancellation of games – this is to be kept to a minimum by all sides. Every attempt is made before the start of the season to allow individual teams to notify Chalgrave Sports Club of any weekends which are not suitable, therefore once published the fixture list is to be adhered to wherever possible. Agreement should be reached between the two opposing captains as well as a representative of Chalgrave Sports Club prior to a match being rescheduled.
- (Un)Gentlemanly behaviour
It was made clear that it is the individual team captain’s responsibility to ensure that conduct on and off the field at all matches is acceptable. Whilst a degree of banter etc. is fine (and indeed part of the game) there has to be a line drawn – if a team captain (or his deputy on the day) feels that this line has been over stepped then he should take it up with the opposing captain immediately to resolve and diffuse the situation. As we have no independent umpires this was seen as the only sensible way to manage the situation.
- Equipment Deposit
The reason for the £50 per team deposit being imposed and the use of the equipment checklist was explained and accepted by all parties present.
- Pitch Preparations
RM requested that all teams nominate potential resources who could be called upon to assist with pitch preparation duties during the season. All agreed with this in principle.
- Any Other Business
- Improvements in communications between teams – in order to aid contact between teams the captain and one nominated deputy from each team is to have their contact details made available on the CSC website. Details to include telephone numbers and email address.
- The scoring spreadsheet created by John Kirwin is to be made available for download from the website (having sought JK’s permission!). Where possible this format is to be used by the teams to supply match details to MW for updates to the website.
- A scorebook is to be made available at each venue as a back up/alternative to the spreadsheet. This to be supplied by CSC prior to the start of hostilities.
- In the absence of a representative from the Dunstablians a decision was made to impose the same match fee at the Rugby Club as in force at CSC i.e. £50 per team.
- Insurance of teams – MW pointed out the situation regarding insurance of other teams and will make details of our current insurers available on the website for those teams wishing to take up this option.
- A proposal was made by RH to arrange a 6 a side competition between the teams in the league, this to be held during September after the completion of the league proper.
- Use of substitutes – it was agreed that the use of substitute players by all teams should be encouraged. Where a team is short of players then substitutes from ANY available side are to be sought in order to make up a full side for each team. Normal rules regarding substitutes will be enforced (i.e. they cannot bat or bowl).
