A fabulous day's cricket, played in good spirit by all of the teams. Here's a summary of the day's games showing how The Plough retained the trophy. Match reports by Matt Lawrence - thanks Matt!

Match One - Road Runnners v Toddington CC

Road Runners 77 for 8

Toddington 63 for 9

Road Runners won by 14 runs

An early start. The draw having been made the first match should have been The Vic v The Plough - but as The Vic hadn't managed to turn up by that time the games were switched! The pre-tournament favourites Toddington saw them fielding first and facing the Road Runners side (the dark horses of the tournament).Toddington got off to a good start with 2 early wickets before Road Runners middle order steadied the ship with 3 retirements and went on to post a very respectable 77 for 8 for the whole 10 overs.Toddington started the chase well but faded after the first few overs and eventually only managed 63 runs for the loss of nine wickets , with a very unattractive 4 ducks on the scoresheet. Top batsmen was Jamie from the Road Runners with an effective 19 not out from just 13 balls. Garth for Road runners and Paul from Toddington both picked up 2 wickets apiece in their overs.

Match Two - The Vic v The Plough

The Vic 50 for 2

The Plough 52 for 2

The Plough won by 8 wickets

The second match saw last year's winners, The Plough take on The Vic in a low scoring match. The Vic batted first and made a steady start but failed to push on and utilise all of ther wickets against some tight bowling. Eventually they ended up with a very conservative total of just 50 for 2.The Plough knocked off the runs easily in just seven overs, with 2 retirements from Paul J(14) and Matt B(10), and a blink of the eye 4 from nev to score the winning runs. Best bowling figures were from Darren with a very economical 1 run from his over.

Match Three - Road Runners v The Vic

Road Runners 79 for 8

The Vic 71 for 7

Road Runners won by 8 runs

With all the teams warmed up and their bellies now full of breakfast rolls the third match saw the Road Runners walk out to bat in a confident mood. They were facing The Vic, who after their initial defeat really needed to win this one to have a chance of making the final. The highest batting total of the day was posted by the Road Runners with 79 for 8, including 3 retirements and 17 runs off 14 balls for Terry. Chasing a high total The Vic batted freely to start with but this unfortunataly saw them lose crucial early wickets and although the middle order batted well it was always just too much, ultimately falling 8 runs short. Adam from the Road Runners managed to take 3 wickets in the second over for just 4 runs - a spell that had a big say in the winning of the match.

Match Four - Toddington v The Plough

Toddington 64 for 8

The Plough 66 for 4

The Plough won by 6 wickets

With Toddington needing a win and The Plough looking to book their place in the final the last league match of the day had everything to play for and promised to be a competitive affair. Toddington batted first and started well with more than 30 runs on the board after 4 overs, but they failed to capitalise on a good start due to some tight fielding from The Plough with 4 run outs.Toddigton managed to post a total of 64 - a competetive score but not a great deal to play with. Toddington bowled with a spirited defence of their total though and in one of the tightest matches of the day The Plough managed to squeeze home with just 3 balls to spare and having lost just 4 wickets. Highest batting score was Paul from Toddington with 13 from 10 balls and best bowling figures went to Colin from The Plough with one wicket and just 1 run scored from his over.

The Vic 60 for 4

Toddington won by 2 runs

Match Six (Final) - Road Runners v The Plough

Road Runners 73 for 9

The Plough 74 for 2

The Plough win by 8 wickets

After a great day of cricket and much fun had by all the final deserved to be an exciting close match and it didn't dissapoint. The Road Runners batted first and made a great start scoring 30 runs off the first 3 overs with just 1 wicket down, before Paul J took 2 wickets in the 4th over. In the second half of their innings the Road Runners kept the score ticking over steadily (aided by a big six from Rich) and continued their good form by posting a competitivel total of 73 for 9. Top scorer for the Road Runners was Jamie with 15 not out from 9 balls and Mike also picked up 2 wickets for The Plough. Retaining the trophy was to be no easy task. The Plough went out to bat knowing that they would have to post their highest total of the day to win. All to play for in the final innings of the match. The Plough started well with 2 early retirements from Darren and Paul J and carried on the good work with some steady middle order batting. An explosive 10 runs from just 4 balls from Nev left them with 41 runs scored after 5 overs and in a strong positon with half their overs left. This was then consolidated with steady innings from Matt L and Mike and although the Road Runners fought back well with some tight bowling the match was won in the last over with 5 balls to spare, The Plough always staying just enough in front to win the match.
